Leaving his prepared notes and going off script, Francis Chan really brought it to us this morning. He admonished us to listen to God and not be swayed to do otherwise when God tells us to do something. "Don't let the advice of others talk you out of doing what you know God wants."
He talked about selling everything and going to Asia to see if God was calling him and his family to ministry there. As they ventured from city to city, country to country, they listened for God. In the process they encountered REAL believers.
"If my life makes sense then I must be doing something wrong," he said talking about living a true Christian lifestyle. Things God calls us to do as believers often do not make sense to our families and friends, even those in the church. The US church is home to many casual Christians.
Casual Christians do not exist in places like India. After all, why would you casually declare your faith knowing your entire family and village will disown you for being a Christian?
Chan continued to challenge our staff. It took a lot of faith - guts - power of the Holy Spirit to stand in front of a group of 5000 professional missionaries of Campus Crusade for Christ and quote Rev. 3:1b
"I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead." But this is what God called him to say to us.
Following his talk we paused for a long time of prayer, seeking God, asking Him to show us if we are indeed alive in Christ. It's been an amazing day so far.
And now tonight a huge announcement as Campus Crusade for Christ changes its name...I'll let you know when I know.
Please be in prayer for us and our fellow staff and leaders.
Blessings,
Karen
