more on Francis Chan's challenging words

Having had a few weeks to think on these things, I'm attempting to share more from Francis Chan's talks.  As you may remember, Steve and I heard him speak to all of Campus Crusade for Christ US Staff at our staff conference in Colorado in July.

"I hate being lonely & having people look at me as weird."  Seems an unlikely statement from a nationally acclaimed pastor and author, doesn't it?  But Francis Chan expressed his heart in light of II Timothy 4.  Read the whole chapter to better understand his comment.

Sometimes we try to hide our weirdness from those around us, preferring instead to just blend in with the crowd.  But in the New Testament, Peter calls us Christians, a peculiar people.  We are supposed to be weird, at least in the eyes of the world.

Is there really anything different about us?  What kind of life would stand out?
II Tim. 4 says things like this:
2Herald and preach the Word! Keep your sense of urgency [stand by, be at hand and ready], whether the opportunity seems to be favorable or unfavorable. [Whether it is convenient or inconvenient, whether it is welcome or unwelcome, you as preacher of the Word are to show people in what way their lives are wrong.]

...and this:  And convince them, rebuking and correcting, warning and urging and encouraging them, being unflagging and inexhaustible in patience and teaching. (Amplified Bible)

That's all it takes to become lonely and weird.   I'm safe -- How about you?

Karen
