Playing catch up

When you're not good at keeping up, you end up playing catch up.  That is my wisdom for today.  Seven weeks since my last post, so I will try to bring this blog up to date.

Sept. 24 we flew to Virginia for meetings at our ministry HQ and time with Stephen's family.  It was a great visit, and may have been the last time we will see his brother and sister-in-law, David and Susie, for a long while.  Please join us in praying for them as they prepare for a new season of life as missionaries in Asia.  They are in training and will leave for the mission field in January.

After a successful ministry meeting we took a road trip!   We drove from Virginia to Maine to visit our daughter Amanda and husband Skylar, taking the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel from Norfolk, up the Eastern Shore into Maryland, followed by Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and finally - Maine!  WHEW!  Passing through nine states in one day you can bet one of them is NOT Texas.  It was quite a day driving through beautiful farm land, huge cities, beaches, rolling hills, and lush forests.

My favorite Maine barn pic

Kennebunk Beach

With only 4 days to see everything within driving distance, we quickly set out on our first lighthouse search despite a rainy day, heading for Kennebunk and Kennebunkport, ME.  Made it to the beach only to discover crazy New England surfers having a great day. Then on to Cape Porpoise for a glimpse of the Goat Island Lighthouse, about 1 mile offshore.

Just loving the charm of New England...
We also saw the famous Bush family compound on Walker Island.  But only after we stopped and took numerous photos of the wrong estate!  Oops...  However, we apparently started a trend as others began to pull in and take pictures too, thinking we knew something.  A little farther on was the actual pull-out for viewing the Bush home but by then the fog was too thick to get a good shot.  At least we saw it.

Oh, I almost forgot the food!!!!!!  Day 1 Fresh Haddock!! and New England Clam Chowder!!  Besides the scenery and amazing cuisine, we had a great time with Amanda who was able to have a few days off.  Skylar was on the night shift so we enjoyed a few choice breakfasts together complete with Baked Beans and Corned Beef Hash-  not to mention eggs, sausage, bacon, pancakes and potatoes. (that was his plate - mine was quite small!  LOL).

Thank you, Lord for allowing for this little side trip in the midst of a busy time of ministry to our troops.  We are blessed...

Up Next:  FALL!
